DAY OF TIDES, A MEMOIR

Preface

Preface

When reading other’s life stories we create images of faces, places and landscapes . We want to be inspired, informed and captivated by that specific person.

These are people who teach us valuable lessons with their knowledge - which can influence us in many ways.

Even the most painful ones.

Day Of Tides is based on a true story of me growing up during the 1960’s and 1970’s in England. It is a narrative account of events portraying  -  about making choices,  confronting the enemy and not without challenges. Sometimes humorous and entertaining  - it is a story of inner strength, creativity and self-identity.

Day Of Tides represents going forward.

Identifying and coming to terms with who we are often becomes compromised through our colour and class. We need to know who we are and to use our knowledge for our forthcoming roles in society . We also bring a concept with us from  birth to childhood which seems difficult to overcome as we mature into adults especially those who play ignorance and refuse to accept those of us who are different. I am proud to be of mixed race heritage and I’m proud to be a British citizen living in an often controversial but Modern society filled with change. Our world is a living theatre and each of our lives tells a story whether it be inspirational, funny or sad. We have so many dreams, so many desires but like so many we come in all shapes, sizes, colour and creed.

There are many individuals who are concerned about surfaces and effects in regard to someone’s skin colour and we are constantly wanting to explain the issues pertaining to mixed races and relationships whether it be in Britain, The USA and around the world – although the last 2 decades we have seen some movement forward.

There is still more work to be done.

For all the rivers that flow, for all the songs that are sung and for all the words that are spoken – there should be no hidden agendas. We should be able to cherish what we have, to be ourselves and stop trying to be something else we are not comfortable with .

The sea and it’s tides have played a valuable part in my life – highlighting my own strengths and weaknesses but also directing me to write this story capturing the words from past to present.

Whatever obstacles one may encounter it is everyone’s right for the pursuit of happiness.
