This book holds special presence. It was given to me as a leaving gift by a young work colleague. Although unexpected - I was pleased to receive such a beautiful gift. I opened the book carefully and on the inside cover it had been signed and read,
To Joanne,
I hope you have a wonderful & fulfilling journey in life.
Take Care ... x
The poems in this book are compelling. Written from various and diverse perspectives. Auschwitz was another world. A world of conflicting emotions which no-one could ever comprehend.
It’s what people don’t want to believe happened, or don’t wish to read about. This book is only a small monument to those who suffered and died. It is also a small monument to those who survived. Poetry has the power to inspire change and is a clear expression of emotions from beauty, love and loss. It offers a new way of thinking about something and the poetry in this book helps us to remember, acknowledge and identify.
A Powerful Memoir By The Former First Lady ‘Michelle Obama’.
A story Unique and Insightful Spoken with Good Humour And Grace. ‘Becoming’ is a worthy read. It’s about identity, our roots and who we become. Embracing uncertainty - when nothing is certain - then anything is possible. The many who play ignorance and refuse to accept those who are different. We should be reminded that we are all individual people, in diverse or unique circumstances and that we all deserve a seat at the table.
Poet, Novelist and Playwright Langston Hughes once wrote, "I too am America."
My time spent writing in the ‘Isles Of Scilly’ are now treasured memories . It is a place which is unique.
A peaceful, ageless retreat inhabited by immortal souls wether remembered or celebrated.
The Scilly Isles are a small group of islands which lie in the Atlantic ocean , thirty miles West of “Lands End“ Fringed with rugged coastlines and sandy beaches and covered in heathland - it’s an exotic escape from the mainland and it’s border which doesn’t need to prove anything ... it’s beauty is just there.
Years later I happened to be browsing in a couple of book shops and came across ‘Islands Apart’ For anybody who loves black & white photography and has visited or lived on the islands this book has a valuable place on your bookshelf.
John Hunt’s photographic plates are of timeless quality which takes you on a curious and unconventional journey throughout the islands. His work has a throwback to the old days of photographic imagery associated with sophistication, elegance and mystery. Making a classic statement of modern photography and of great reflection of the islands past and present .
